New Cairo

Last week, I went to Egypt for work. This was my first time in Africa. My workplace was in the New Administrative Capital, so I decided to stay in the adjoining New Cairo. It is a modern satellite city within the Cairo Governorate of Egypt and the metropolitan area of Greater Cairo, whose formation was first initiated by a presidential decree in 1995 during the presidency of former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

My first view of this place was from the sky. What struck me most was the absolute lack of any colours anywhere. Everything is the same colour as the desert.

After landing, my first impression was that it was similar to any modern city, but with the backdrop of a desert. Overall, it gave me Albuquerque vibes, from Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul.

For dinner, I went to the Point 90 mall which reminded me a bit of Ambience Mall.

Since I spent most of my stay working at night, the resort I was staying at was the only place I could explore properly.I found the amount of greenery and water they had, in the middle of the desert, a bit obscene.

My work was hard and I had little time for leisure. But my stay was made better by the 2 Westin Protectors here, Steve & Sultan, in whose loving company I spent a lot of time.

On the days that I did explore the city a bit, I didn’t find much that I wouldn’t find in any other city.
