Xiamen

2017 & 2019

By In China 3 mins

Xiamen, historically romanized as Amoy, is a sub-provincial city in southeastern FujianPeople’s Republic of China, beside the Taiwan Strait. My first trip here in 2017 was my first visit to China.

My first impression of Xiamen was how developed China is, contrary to what most Indians think. It was also my first time in an EV.

First Taste of Chinese Food

After I landed, we went off straight to dinner with my colleagues. Much exotic food.

Various kinds of seafood, snake and worms suspended in jelly, I ate it all. All I told them was to not feed me dog meat. They assured my dog meat is not common in most of China.

Zhongshan Road

Friday night before our flight, we went to Zhongshan Road, a happening place in Xiamen.

We had more seafood for dinner (some of it alive on the plate) and some Shaoxing wine (a bit too much) and roamed around Zhongshan Road for some time.

I ended my trip vomiting blood at the hotel having lost my stomach lining.

Streets of Xiamen

I went back after 2 years and stayed at a completely different place, a hotel on top of a mall.

There was no Chinese hospitality this time, so me and my colleague roamed around, mostly on foot.

Xiamen Botanical Garden

On our last day there, we hiked in the Xiamen Botanical Garden.

At sunset, we hiked down and bid farewell to this beautiful city.
