Koh Chang is an island on the eastern seaboard of Thailand, in Trat province. It is approximately 300km from Bangkok, near the border with Cambodia. The name Koh Chang means ‘Elephant Island’ and derives from its elephant-shaped headland. It is also our favourite vacation place in the whole world. Below are some photos over 5 trips in 4 years.

Koh Chang Ferry
The only way to reach Koh Chang is by ferry from the mainland. There’s one every 30 mins during peak season.
On the island, we always stay at an AirBnB at Blue Haven Bay resorts. Our Villa is at Half Moon bay, a quiet corner within the resort.

If you cross over to the North-West side of the resort, you come to Chang Noi beach. You can catch beautiful sunsets here over the hill.

Even in the mornings, the beach is nice and quiet and beautiful here. We take long walks with Coco.

There’s a solitary pier hidden behind some thickets. We like to walk to the end and sit there peacefully, with our legs dangling over the vast ocean.

White Sand Beach
Another place to enjoy the sunset is at White Sand Beach, on the western edge of the island. We go and sit at Beach Tango with drinks watching the sunset and eat and leave after it’s over.

View Points
Koh Chang has many view points where you can stop and admire the beauty of the island and the sea. The first is Kai Bae view point from where you can see the surrounding islands and also the sunset.

Another nice view point is this one from where you can see White Sand Beach sprawled out.
South of Koh Chang
There are two places we like in south of Koh Chang.
The first is the Khlong Phlu Waterfall. Although the waterfall itself is not impressive, the hike leading up to it is quite peaceful.
Another place is the floating market at Bang Bao Pier at the southernmost tip of the island. The pier is extremely long with ships on both sides.
