Gurgaon

Over the Years

By In Haryana 5 mins

Gurgaon, officially named Gurugram, is a satellite city of Delhi and administrative headquarters of Gurgaon district, located in the northern Indian state of Haryana. It is situated near the Delhi–Haryana border, about 30 kilometres (19 mi) southwest of the national capital New Delhi and 268 km (167 mi) south of Chandigarh, the state capital. It is one of the major satellite cities of Delhi and is part of the National Capital Region of India. As of 2011, Gurgaon had a population of 876,969.

This city is also where I lived for the longest in my entire life, 13 years. Needless to say, there are a lot of emotions associated with this city.

Undoubtedly, our favourite place in Gurgaon was Ambience Mall. We went there every Sunday, without fail. Sometimes, on other days, too. I miss this place dearly.

Vipul Arcade was where our bank locker was.

NH48 was the main lifeline of the city, connecting it to Delhi and Rajasthan.

We once went to attend Lohri celebrations at Institute of Apparel Management.

DLF Cyber City

DLF Cyber city was where all the offices were. It also had the Cyber Hub, a hip shopping and entertainment venue.

Leisure Valley Park

Leisure valley park is an urban park where you can go for a few hours to escape the madness off the city.

Sector 22

Sector 22 was an old-style neighbourhood where we lived when we were poor. Even though the place was filthy and undeveloped, we have fond memories of his place, as our kid was born when we lived here.

Monkeys used to be very common here; they would snatch things from your hands and then bargain with food before giving them back.

Sector 33

Sector 33 is where we lived after we were fed up with Sector 22. I was our first time living in a modern apartment since getting married.

Sector 47

Sector 47 was where we lived during our final years in this city, in our own apartment. Had a very suburban feel to it. My mind would fill with dread before looking out of the window for the first time in the morning, afraid to see how much smog there is, outside.

DLF Galleria

Galleria was a nice old-school market complex where we used to go often and spend time with the dogs there.

Kingdom of Dreams

Kingdom of Dreams was an entertainment complex located in Gurgaon. Owned by the Great Indian Nautanki Company (GINC), a joint venture between Apra Group and Wizcraft, and opened in 2010, the 6-acre (24,000 m2) facility consisted of two auditoriums, the 864-seat Nautanki Mahal, the 350-seat Showshaa Theatre, and an indoor cultural boulevard called Culture Gully, featuring dining, crafts, and entertainment.

The complex was closed in July 2022 by the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HVSP), in a dispute over unpaid lease payments for the complex’s property.

We used to gop there quite often, because we could all eat what we wanted without having to order from the same place. A higher-end version of a food court.

There are impromptu cultural performances of artists from various states, all evening.

Suburbs of Gurgaon

We often used to go to Gateway by Taj at Damdama lake, an upscale resort.

Dogs of Gurgaon

No post on this city is complete without a special mention to the dogs who I have met here over the years.
