To the west of Darjeeling lies the easternmost province of Nepal, to the east the Kingdom of Bhutan, to the north the Indian state of Sikkim, and farther north the Tibet Autonomous Region of ChinaBangladesh lies to the south and southeast, and most of the state of West Bengal lies to the south and southwest, connected to the Darjeeling region by a narrow tractKangchenjunga, the world’s third-highest mountain, rises to the north and is prominently visible on clear days.

We went there in 2017 with my parents.

Singtam Tea Garden

Before going to the town itself, we went to Singtam, a charming tea plantation which has a few rooms for bed and board.

It was a charming wooden house, with fireplaces in each room. Nestled away from the city, at night, it feels extremely quiet and secluded.

Lot of Flora and Fauna around.

Darjeeling Zoo

Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park (also called the Darjeeling Zoo) is a 67.56-acre (27.3 ha) zoo in the town of Darjeeling. The zoo was opened in 1958, and an average elevation of 7,000 feet (2,134 m), is the largest high altitude zoo in India. It specializes in breeding animals adapted to alpine conditions, and has successful captive breeding programs for the snow leopard, the endangered Himalayan wolf and the red panda. The zoo attracts about 300,000 visitors every year. The park is named after Padmaja Naidu (1900–1975) who served as the 4th Governor of West Bengal. The zoo serves as the central hub for Central Zoo Authority of India‘s red panda program and is a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

We really enjoyed our time here.

Darjeeling Town

The town itself is like any other Hill Station in India, overcrowded with tourists jostling for space. We spent quite some time at Chowk Bazaar.

The view from Glenary’s is breathtaking. The food is just average.

No Indian Hill Station is complete without a customary church.
