São Paulo (Portuguese for ‘Saint Paul‘) is the capital city of the state of São Paulo, as well as the most populous city in Brazil and in the Americas. Listed by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network (GaWC) as an alpha global city, it exerts substantial international influence in commerce, finance, arts, and entertainment. It is the largest urban area by population outside Asia and the most populous Portuguese-speaking city in the world. The city’s name honors Paul the Apostle and people from the city are known as paulistanos. The city’s Latin motto is Non ducor, duco, which translates as “I am not led, I lead”.
It is also my favourite city in the whole world and I love to travel there time and again.

Sights of the City
The best way to explore São Paulo is on foot. I spend days at end walking to different parts of the city.

It is an absolute joy randomly coming across buildings like this.

One good way to look at the cityscape is to go to one of the tallest buildings in the city, pay a fend go to the rooftop.

Paulista
Paulista is the fashionable business district of São Paulo. On Sundays, it’s closed off to vehicles and you can spend a good time walking and taking in the sights.

Itaim Bibi
Itaim Bibi is the hip residential district of Sao Paulo. For my first three trips, my hotel was here. The 4 photos below were taken within a 30 minute interval. See how fast the view changes.

Ibirapuera Park
São Paulo has many beautiful parks, but my favourite is Ibirapuera park. I start with a walk around the entire park and end it by sitting in front of the lake and listening to the sounds of people around me.

On Sundays, the park is crowded with families and people enjoying their day off.
There are a lot of street performers to be seen here.
The park is home to a varied fauna.
The park is also home to my favourite museum here, the Museum Afro Brasil.

Churches and Cathedrals
Sao Paulo is home to many beautiful churches and cathedrals, most of which are open to the public every day.
Street Art
The first thing that struck me when I came here for the first time was how every literally wall of the city was adorned with street art.
If you want a day full of street art and graffiti, head out to Vila Madalena, which is a paradise for street art enthusiasts.
