Melbourne

2019 trip

By In Australia 2 mins

Melbourne is the capital and most populous city of the Australian state of Victoria and the second-most populous city in Australia. It is one of the most perfect and flawless cities I have been to, anywhere in the world. American cities have crime and poverty. Most European cities have bad weather and less sunlight. Melbourne checks all the boxes of what a perfect city on earth would be like.

I went there for work in 2019. Some relatives on my wife’s side took me straight to Altona Beach.

My office and hotel were near the CBD, which is bustling during the week, but the alleys feel haunted on the weekends.

The city is extremely walkable and public transportation is superb.

On my day off, I met up with my friend and we went to the Shrine of Remembrance, a war memorial.

We then drove up to Mornington Peninsula and Arthur’s seat.

On the way back to the city, we stopped at Frankston Beach.

Australians take sports very seriously and at almost every park, I could see people playing some kind of sport.

Southern Cross station was where we took the train to go to some railway office.

I also spent time with a friend who lived at Docklands.

My only gripe is that, having spent most of my life in bustling Asian cities, I found Melbourne too quiet, with very few people on weekends. You may walk on the streets and spend 15 minutes without seeing another face.

But that is my problem, not Melbourne’s, which is for all intents and purposes, perfect.
