Changzhou

Over the Years

By In China 5 mins

Changzhou is a prefecture-level city in southern Jiangsu, China. It was previously known as Yanling, Lanling, and Jinling. Located on the southern bank of the Yangtze River, Changzhou borders the provincial capital of Nanjing to the west, Zhenjiang to the northwest, Wuxi to the east, and the province of Zhejiang to the south. The population of the Changzhou Municipality was 5,278,121 at the 2020 census. The city is the birthplace of Zhou Youguang who created the pinyin romanization system.

This was the second city I visited in China, after Xiamen. I visited this place 5 times in 2 years, because our Chinese joint-venture was based here and I helped train one of their teams.

Tianning Temple

As soon as I landed there, my colleague took me to Tianning Temple. I don’t know why he did that, probably thought I am religious because I am an Indian. Still, the temple was beautiful.

Chunqiu Yancheng

The second place I went to, was Chunqiu Yancheng, which looked sort of staged to me, to be honest.

Yangtze

I took time one evening to go visit the mighty Yangtze, which sadly, doesn’t go through the city but a bit north of it.

Xintiandi Park

My favourite place in Changzhou is undoubtedly Xintiandi Park right opposite my hotel, where I spent many evenings roaming around.

Streets of Changzhou

Most of my spare time, though, I spent walking the streets alone, lamenting on why India did not develop at the same pace.

The Food of Changzhou

As always, I relished the fod I ate there over the years.

Work at Changzhou

I spent most of my time at work, at different metro stations, control centres and our joint-venture office.

My last memory before leaving the city was spending time around Changzhoubei.
