National Zoological Park

Delhi, 2014

By In Delhi 5 mins

The National Zoological Park (originally Delhi Zoo) is a 176-acre (71 ha) zoo in New Delhi, India. Although the idea to have a zoo in the national capital was proposed in 1951, the park was inaugurated in November 1959. In 1953 the committee approved the location of the zoo, and in October 1955 it assigned N. D. Bachkheti of the Indian Forest Service to oversee the creation of the zoo.

Although we have been there many times, the photos below are from a specific trip in 2014.

The Animals

The highlight of the zoo is the white tiger, which is considered quite rare. He is most famous for mauling a human who deliberately climbed into his enclosure. Thankfully, the animal was not punished for human stupidity.

There are a lot of Blackbucks in their enclosure.

Indian Rhinoceros.

The Birds

There are many types of birds here, most of them free roaming, not caged in.

Purana Qila

Purana Qila (Old Fort) is one of the oldest forts in Delhi, India. It was built by the second Mughal Emperor Humayun and Surid Sultan Sher Shah Suri.[1] The fort forms the inner citadel of the city of Dinpanah. It is located near the expansive Pragati Maidan exhibition ground and is separated from Dhyanchand Stadium by Mathura Road, Delhi. It shares the same overall campus as the Zoo.

The Flora

There are a lot of beautiful plants and flowers in the Purana Qila.
